Captured: Freo Prison 1991
$12.50
Prior to the decommission of Fremantle Prison in 1991, it was deemed necessary to visually record the facility and the routines before it ceased to operate as a place of incarceration. Photographer Karin Calvert-Borshoff was engaged to undertake this project and to ensure the actual conditions and antiquated rituals were thoroughly photographed; she was given unrestricted access to the people in the Prison.
The resulting black and white photographs offer an extraordinary insight into life inside of Fremantle Prison and is a testament to the foresight of those who were responsible for the Prison at the time. These photographs have become an invaluable part of the Fremantle Prison Collection.
