The Catalpa Escape: Information and Activities - Joy & Mike Lefroy

$15.00

In 1868 the Hougoumont was the last ship to bring convicts to Australia. Amongst these were Irish political prisoners known as Fenians. The Catalpa Escape, explores the rescue of six of these Fenians from Western Australia by the Catalpa in 1876. They are the only prisoners to permanently escape from Fremantle Gaol.

The Information and Activities booklet that accompanies The Catalpa Escape gives background to the rescue, and reasons why Catalpa, a whaling ship, was able to sail unnoticed into Australian waters.
