Fremantle Prison has a unique heritage collection of stories recorded by prisoners, staff and others who lived and worked within the walls in its last decades.

The Voices of Fremantle Prison stories are authentic, often grim, and give a first-hand view of life at the Prison.

Hear the words of prisoners in their own voices about their first impressions of the gaol.

This audio is from the Voices of Fremantle Prison project, taken from oral histories in the Fremantle Prison Collection.
